Alexander Findley's family arrived with the first white settlers when came to the Wallowa Valley in May, 1872. Alexander and his wife and children became good friends with Chief Joseph, and were also intimately involved in the circumstances leading to the extirpation of Chief Joseph's band, exiled from Wallowa County. This account of their lives, written by Alexander Findley's son in 1940, details the triumphs and tragedies of the family's rich and often challenging lives.
Published in collaboration with the Wallowa History Center, it's a must-read for anyone interested in the Nez Perce, Wallowa County's early history, or life in pioneer times.
